In 2008, Bangladesh initiated Preventive Chemotherapy (PCT) for school-age children (SAC) through bi-annual school-based mass drug administration (MDA) to control Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) infections. In 2016, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Program on Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination and STH (ELFSTH) initiated district-level community impact assessments with Children Without Worms (CWW) using standardized, population-based sampling to measure the post-intervention STH burden across all ages (≥ 1 yr) for the three STH species. The Integrated Community-based Survey for Program Monitoring (ICSPM) was developed by CWW and was used to survey 12 districts in Bangladesh from 2017–2020. We excluded the first two district data as piloting caused some sampling errors and combined the individual demographic and parasite-specific characteristics from the subsequent 10 districts, linking them with the laboratory data for collective analysis. Our analysis identified district-specific epidemiologic findings, important for program decisions. Of the 17,874 enrolled individuals, our results are based on 10,824 (61.0%) stool samples. Overall, the prevalence of any STH species was substantially reduced to 14% from 79.8% in 2005. The impact was similar across all ages. STH prevalence was 14% in 10 districts collectively, but remained high in four districts, despite their high reported PCT coverage in previous years. Among all, Bhola district was unique because it was the only district with high T.trichuris prevalence. Bangladesh successfully lowered STH prevalence across all ages despite targeting SAC only. Data from the survey indicate a significant number of adults and pre-school age children (PSAC) were self-deworming with purchased pills. This may account for the flat impact curve across all ages. Overall prevalence varied across surveyed districts, with persistent high transmission in the northeastern districts and a district in the central flood zone, indicating possible service and ecological factors. A new typical phenothiazine compound functionalized with thienyl‐indandione derivative (PTZTID) was synthesized and characterized using spectral analysis (ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) light, infrared (IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and 13C NMR tools). The UV–vis absorption spectra of the PTZTID solution in 1,4‐dioxane showed two absorption bands attributed to localized aromatic π–π* transitions of conjugated aromatic moieties and intramolecular charge transfer with the characteristics of a π–π* transition. The fluorescence spectra exhibited a maximum emission wavelength at 580 nm. The effect of concentration on photophysical properties took the form of a minor hypsochromic shift, which was attributed to some extent to the occurrence of H‐type aggregation of the PTZTID derivative. Binary solvent effects on the spectroscopic behaviour of PTZTID were measured at different H2O/1,4‐dioxane ratios. Similarly, when increasing the water content, a hypsochromic shift was observed that resulted from H‐type aggregation. Furthermore, geometry and electronic configurations of PTZTID were studied at density functional theory /B3LYP level and indicated that the compound had a nonplanar (butterfly structure). 相似文献

This paper explores the mechanism(s) whereby liposomes accumulate in chronically ischaemic myocardium and intestine. Plasma prepared from venous blood obtained at sites of myocardial and intestinal infarction does not promote the lysis of positively and negatively charged liposomes in vitro. Albumin-bound lysophosphatidylcholine (≥ 2 mM) lyses positively and negatively charged liposomes in vitro at similar rates. [99mTc]Diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) entrapped in positively charged liposomes was accumulated in ischaemic rat caecum/colon 6 and 24 h after mesenteric ligation. Presumably allied to the accumulation of liposomal components, necrotic caecum/colon showed marked Ca2+ accumulation and phospholipid depletion. It is postulated that Ca2+ and Ca2+-activated membrane phospholipases may be implicated in the mechanism of liposome accumulation in chronic ischaemia. 相似文献

Significant headway has been made in the global fight against malaria in the past decade and as more countries enter the elimination phase, attention is now focused on identifying effective strategies to shrink the malaria map. Saudi Arabia experienced an outbreak of malaria in 1998, but is now on the brink of malaria elimination, with just 82 autochthonous cases reported in 2012. A review of published and grey literature was performed to identify the control strategies that have contributed to this achievement. The number of autochthonous malaria cases in Saudi Arabia decreased by 99.8% between 1998 and 2012. The initial steep decline in malaria cases coincided with a rapid scaling up of vector control measures. Incidence continued to be reported at low levels (between 0.01 and 0.1 per 1,000 of the population) until the adoption of artesunate plus sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine as first line treatment and the establishment of a regional partnership for a malaria-free Arabian Peninsula, both of which occurred in 2007. Since 2007, incidence has decreased by nearly an order of magnitude. Malaria incidence is now very low, but a high proportion of imported cases, continued potential for autochthonous transmission, and an increased proportion of cases attributable to Plasmodium vivax all present challenges to Saudi Arabia as they work toward elimination by 2015. 相似文献

Marrow stromal cells (MSC) are thought to be stem cells with osteogenic potential and therefore responsible for the repair and maintenance of the skeleton. Age related bone loss is one of the most prevalent diseases in the elder population. It is controversial whether MSC undergo a process of aging in vivo, leading to decreased ability to form and maintain bone homeostasis with age.
